Rise Delmar Ochsner was born and raised in New York City. She graduated from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans and practiced medicine there for almost 20 years before retiring from her Ophthalmology practice. She moved to Santa Barbara in 1995 to be a full time artist.
She has painted commissioned portraits (life-size) of chefs for the Robert Mondavi Wine Culinary Awards, Mick Jagger, Queen Noor of Jordan, Julia Child, Paul Prudhomme, and David Oreck.
Rise enjoys painting figurative work, children, pets, landscapes and even a few grownup's toys. Her loose and lush style is shown off well by the scale and colorful boldness that typifies her work. Her large canvases tend to tower over the diminutive artist.
